Fried Apple Pies
Enough said.
Ingredients
- 1 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup ice water
- 2 apples
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1 cup vegetable oil
- confectioners' sugar
Directions:
- Heat your oil in a medium skillet on medium-high.
- Peel and dice apples and put in a small saucepan. Add sugar and cinnamon. Cook over low heat until soft then mash with fork to form thick applesauce.
- Sift flour and salt together. Cut in shortening. Add water (strain out ice) and mix. Roll out dough until about 1/8" thick. Cut with biscuit cutter or something about 4" in diameter.
- Place 1 heaping tablespoon of fruit in each round. Crimp pies closed with fork (if the edges won't stick, moisten them a bit before crimping).
- Fry the pies 2 or 3 at a time until golden brown. Sprinkle with confectioners' sugar.
